Aims of the Track Off Campaign
The Track Off campaign is an educational initiative managed by Rail
Safety and Standards Board on behalf of the railway industry. The main
aim of the campaign is to raise public awareness, especially among
young people, of the dangers and consequences of railway crime.
Railway crime can have serious consequences, not only for the perpetrators
but for rail industry staff and the travelling public. In some cases,
railway crime can result in death or serious injury as well as costing
the industry financially. Fatalities and life changing injuries that
occur as a result of railway crime have a massive emotional impact
on families, friends and staff who have to deal with the consequences.
The legal consequences are also significant, young people and adults
committing acts of railway crime may receive a criminal records that
harms job prospects and affects normal life.
To try and raise the the profile of the dangers and consequences
of railway crime, the campaign provides free educational resources
to those organisations that can spread the message on our behalf
such as schools, colleges, child minders, youth centres and community
groups. The rail industry remains very grateful for the support
we receive from these organisations in educating young people about
the serious issues associated with acts of railway crime.
